Embellished RAW Stitch

In this tutorial, I will be going over a couple ways to embellish the RAW Stitch. We will be going over how to add a bead to the inside of the stitches and to the outside of the stitches. In this one, I will be going over how to add beads similar in size, or the same size as the stitches, so if for 2 2mm beads we would use a 4mm bead as the embellishment, in the next one we will go over how to use larger beads than our stitches.

For this tutorial we will need:
-8/0 seed beads (2mm seed beads)
-Thread
-A beading needle
-4mm beads
-Scissors
-End bead (diff color one to not get mixed up later)

We will cut a piece of thread, thread the needle, and add a stopper bead a few inches from the end.

 In this example, I am building off the unembellished RAW so I already have the 2 beads from the last square.
If you are doing this as a starting square add 2 more seed beads than I did in the pictures.

So I am doing this the same as the unembellished other than I am replacing 2 of the seed beads of the stitch with a single larger bead.
The placement of the larger bead in the lineup dictates where in the piece it is, if it is in the middle of two sets of seed beads like in the pictures here it will be in the center of the chain. 

 In this example, we put a 4mm bead and 4 seed beads on, and it makes the embellishment be on the outside of the chain.

This tutorial has been on how to embellish a chain of RAW Stitch, but can be used on more of a net style as well, which is how the larger embellishment tutorial will be shown with.

RAW Stitch Basics

In this Tutorial I will be going over the Right Angle Weave Stitch, also known as the RAW stitch. This is a good stitch when making a loopy piece, a uniform piece, or a fast piece. this one is one of my go to stitches when beading because of how simple it is while looking quite elegant. It also can be heavily edited and used to build off of other stitches.

What We will need for this tutorial is:

Thread
A Needle- beading preferred but not necessary.
Seed Beads- I am using 8/0 or 2mm for this tutorial, but you can use whatever size comfortably goes through your needle.
Scissors
Larger out of place bead- stopper bead.

First let us get our materials ready, cut about an arms length of thread and thread the needle, add an out of place bead, I usually go with a larger round bead that is quite different in color, and use it as a stopper 4+ inches from the end. I always like having lots of room on the end of pieces, and the larger the piece the longer the end, that way if I mess something up I can go back and fix it and not have to go all the way back.


With the needle threaded and the stopper on, add 8 seed beads and put them right against the stopper.

Next go through the whole row through the first seed bead first. It should make a circle like this.

 Now we will go through the next four in the circle again, then add 6 more seed beads.

Next go through the last 2 beads of the last square, in this picture the white ones.

Then through the next 4 beads in the new circle, in this example the gold beads.













Now you have your first two squares.

From here you can keep going in a chain, or go in any direction for the squares, and this stitch can be edited a lot to work however you want it to.

In future tutorials I will show different changes you can do to the RAW stitch, but this one should get you started.
